Incremental Encoders are widely used in industrial applications that require exact positioning. Typically mounted on the axis of a motor or rotating part of a machine, they generate a stream of high-speed pulses. In order to obtain the current position, you need to count the pulses from the last reference point.
The new Quadrature Decoder and High-Speed Counter Module for the EDAS CE is the ideal solution to connect incremental encoders to an Ethernet-based automation system.

Jochen Weiland has taken over the position as product manager for the EDAS and Data Acqusition product lines. He holds a degree in electrical engineering and has been with the company for 19 years. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
A huge benefit of using the EDAS CE automation and control system is its built-in remote manager. Using a browser interface you can administrate all functions from anywhere in the plant - or world.
The remote manager allows the administrator to start and stop programs, view the configuration or changes settings.
Using the Update Manager you can download files to a special folder on the compact flash card inside the EDAS CE. During the next boot, they are moved to their final location. This allows all files in the EDAS to be updated - even those that are in use during normal operation.
Click here for a detailed description and online tutorial on how to use the Update Manager.
We also added a tutorial on the Webdevice Scripting language for browser-based applications along with sample applications.
The code and examples on these pages will get you started quickly and easily with your EDAS CE project.

Intelligent Instrumentation, Inc. has been purchased from its former parent, Texas Instruments, by longtime managers Rick Daniel, Bob Auman, Paul Liska, and Paul Tobey.
Intelligent Instrumentation was established in 1984 as an independent subsidiary of the former Burr-Brown Corporation which was subsequently purchased by Texas Instruments.
Rick Daniel, President and CEO of III, stated "... Customers can expect the same high level of professionalism and commitment that we've always provided, and should notice no change. This move is a natural for us, as we've always operated as a fiercely independent entity ..."
Dan Goldner, Vice President and Controller of TI's High Performance Analog Division, said "We've been impressed with the way the III people have managed ... with very little intervention from TI and agreed that the management team should take the business totally independent. It's a good move for both companies."
