EDAS-2000 CPU Module - processor, Ethernet connectivity, non-volatile memory

Each system requires one EDAS-2000E-1, -2, or -3 Series base (processor) unit. The base units includes the CPU, Ethernet connectivity, and an RS-232 port. The 32-bit embedded processor runs the Windows CE 3.0 operating system, providing real-time and multi-tasking capabilities.

The EDAS CE Base Unit includes a program (suprcate.exe) that runs on the EDAS CE as a data server. A PC or other computer can open a connection and issue commands to read and write the EDAS CE I/O points. Applications that communicate with suprcate.exe use the Net Link API. The Net Link API supports Visual C/C++ and Visual Basic on the Windows (98/Me/NT/2000) platforms, and C on Unix platforms.

The optional EDAS-2000E-2 Base Unit is available with 128 kbytes of non-volatile Battery RAM. Using the NV-RAM option for data storage has two advantages over storage of non-volatile data on the compact flash card. Data can be stored and accessed faster from the Battery NV-RAM than from the compact flash. Applications such as control loops that store state variables every time through the loop will benefit with faster updating of data. Repeated writing data to the compact flash will eventually where it out. The Battery NV-RAM has no such constraint on the number of times data may be written to it.
